Party under the stars One of the joys of summer is the possibility of spending evenings out in the open, literally under the stars. So much can be enjoyed during the warm balmy evenings which are typical of our islands' summers.
One of the joys of summer is the possibility of spending evenings out in the open, literally under the stars. So much can be enjoyed during the warm balmy evenings which are typical of our islands' summers. Partying under the stars is a great way of getting together to share good food, good wine and music - the plus side is that you don’t even need to go out - you can enjoy it all from your home base.
You do not need to own a palazzo to party under the stars. Most people have the best parties on a roof terrace, or in their own back yard. Wherever you plan to party, there are some things that truly come in handy and contribute to liven up the works no end.
Lights are a must. Consider rigging up some fairy lights...yes even Christmas fairy lights can be fun (especially if you eliminate the ones with Santa) because the onus is on adding lively colour around your space. Alternatively try colourful candle holders or lanterns. Avoid white neon light like the plague - you need soft atmosphere to elicit relaxation.
Remember to use mosquito repelling solution such as burning lavender oils, lavender scented candles and citronella candles.
Seating can be as soft and fluffy as a pouffe set, as basic as a collection of pillows on a carpet, as breezy as a pair of deckchairs or just hike up some bar stools. If your space is limited, try to aim for foldable benches that can line the walls. Rattan chairs and armchairs are also a great option to play around with if you have the space to hold them.
Choose a theme if possible. This will give character to your decor and bring out the interior stylist in you. So for instance, a colour theme which focuses on white will include white fairy lights, white pillows, white dishes, white tablecloth, white flowers, perhaps even getting the guests to wear all-white outfits. Another idea would be to have an Arabian nights theme, so that you include brass or copper coloured urns, lanterns, cutlery and tableware. Add to this oriental design carpets for guests to lounge on, some exotic plants and palm trees in large hammered copper planters, lots of bells and statuary.
Ultimately music to match the mood is a must. Background music is bliss, and perhaps if there are musicians in your midst, poke their playfulness by including a guitar or two for impromptu playing.
